Local Foundation helping families with sick children

The Team Walkerpete Foundation of Harlingen is collecting gift cards to local restaurants for the parents and caregivers of sick children who will spend the holidays in the hospital.

"When I think of Nick, I think of Christmas--he loved Christmas so much," said Ashley Peters, a Texas A&M University senior. Peters lost her younger brother Nick to leukemia last year, when Nick was just a teenager.

HARLINGEN — Just about two weeks ago, friends and family gathered in the Wesley United Methodist Church parking lot. They were adorned in yellow T-shirts and carried signs supporting their friend and classmate Nick Peters.

HARLINGEN — There was just no stopping him.
Nick Peters, the Harlingen High School student known for running down the halls in a blueberry costume and developing new apps, was elected homecoming king Friday.
